# README_3PC_Catalog+SEDs.txt # Created by david.smith@u-bordeaux.fr (=das) on 2023 March 5. # Updates by das, 2023 March 7 ; 2023 June 27. # Updates by psr, 2023 June 27 # Update by das, 2023 August 3 -- 11 of the more recent gamma-ray pulsars did not have flux points or limits in the SED plots. Added the 4FGL name to hdu[1] of the .fits file, regenerated those plots, and updated the .tgz and the concatenated .pdf file. The pulsars are J1259-8148 J1306-6043 J1402+1306 J1623-6936 J1757-6032 J1803-6707 J1824-0621 J1835-3259B J1852-1310 J2029-4239 J2116+1345 It describes the pulsar catalog "flat file", in FITS and spreadsheet formats, provided with the Fermi LAT 3rd catalog of gamma-ray pulsars ("3PC") The main table is called "PULSARS_BIGFILE" (HDU 1 for the fits file, and first tab for the spreadsheet file). The "bigfile_config" HDU/tab details the input files used to create the flat file, as described below. It has 294 rows, one for each gamma-ray pulsar, and 101 columns with information about the pulsars. Most figures and tables in this article were created from these files. In the FITS file, HDU 2 is "BIGFILE_CONFIG" (tab "bigfile_config" in the .xls), which has information about how the BIGFILE is created from various input sources, as described below. For the FITS file only (not in the .xls), HDU 3 is called "LAT_Point_Source_Catalog". This contains SED information from the pulsars, derived from the 4GL-DR3 catalog. The contents of this HDU and how to use it are described in README_SED.txt The "PULSARS_BIGFILE" HDU is created by reading a sequence of input sources, and then collating them. The sequence of input sources is: 1) The ATNF pulsar catalog, "psrcat" https://www.atnf.csiro.au/research/pulsar/psrcat/ 2) A LAT team internal file identifying pulsars for which we see gamma-ray pulsations. 3) The 4FGL-DR3 file, amended to i) provide PLEC4 fit results for additional pulsars beyond those reported in 4FGL-DR3 ; ii) Provide PLEC4 parameters for the b=2/3 and b "free" fits as described in Section 6. (Not all PLEC4 parameters are kept in HDU=1. HDU=3 has the complete set.) 4) The results of the gamma-ray pulse profile (light curve) fits 5) Our compilation of proper motion measurements, which overwrite ATNF psrcat values when present. 6) Our compilation of radio flux density values at S1400 as described in Section 4.1 7) Millisecond pulsars from https://astro.phys.wvu.edu/GalacticMSPs/GalacticMSPs.txt, some of which are not in ATNF psrcat. 8) Radio polarization values, some of which are not in ATNF psrcat. 10) Our compilation of distances, which overwrite ATNF psrcat values when present, as described in Section 4.2 11) Internal files listing a few pulsars not yet included in ATNF psrcat 12) Parameters taken from our collection of >1600 rotation ephemerides (".par files"), which in some cases improve parameters obtained from the above. We used ATNF psrcat v1.68. In the following we describe the column contents. When two columns are provided, the first column is the name from the input source and the second is the name used in the 3PC catalog file. In the 3PC catalog file, statistical and systematic uncertainties for values XXX are designated e_XXX_stat and e_XXX_syst, respectively. When e_XXX_stat, e_XXX_syst are tuples, they contain the (lower, upper) error bars, respectively. ============================================= psrcat # The ATNF psrcat names are documented at https://www.atnf.csiro.au/research/pulsar/psrcat/ , # not repeated here.
