Fermi ToO 030602-1-1

A ToO observation to observe PSRB1259-63 at RA, Dec = 195.6980, -63.8360 (J2000) was approved at 2010-12-23 19:37:43 UTC.

The justification for the ToO is: The current periastron passage of PSR B1259-63 started late Nov and will end early Jan. The peak of the transient X-ray and radio occur during the first (Nov 20 - Dec 10) and second (Dec 22 - Jan 2) passages through the Be star disk (Chernyakova et al. 2006, 2009). Observations in LAT band are needed measure the SED and constrain IC v. synchrotron emission models. LAT flux from previous 32 days is 1.2e-7. To say anything about shorter term variability or to constrain the spectral index of the SED, we need signficantly greater exposure during the next month. TOO will give approximately triple exposure per unit time relative to sky survey. This is the first and maybe the last periastron passage of this system during the Fermi mission.

The planned duration is 1200.00 ks.

The autonomous request threshold during this ToO is LOW.

The ToO observation should begin between 2010-12-23 19:37:42 UTC and 2010-12-30 19:37:42 UTC.

The ToO observation was requested by DR. AOUS ABDO.

The ToO commanding order was sent to the MOC at 2010-12-23 19:45:44 UTC.

The MOC acknowledged receipt of this order at 2010-12-23 19:47:08 UTC.

The ToO order status is Acknowledging receipt of ToO Order 030602-1-1
