Proposal Preparation Tools
Simulation Tools:
- LAT Source Detectability — a web-based tool that calculates the detectability by the LAT of a point source superimposed on the diffuse gamma-ray emission at a specified point.
- FermiSpec — this tool runs XSPEC simulations (i.e., fakeit). The response functions and backgrounds for both LAT and GBM detectors are provided. A number of simple spectral functions (e.g., power laws) applicable to Fermi are available. In addition to running an XSPEC simulation through the webpage, the user can download the response function and background files for further simulations.
- Simulations using the Standard Analysis Environment (SAE) — The SAE, the data analysis system provided to analyze Fermi data, includes tools to simulate Fermi data that can then be analyzed as if they were real data. To use this advanced capability the user will download and install the SAE.
Auxillary Tools:
- Object location and coordinate conversion — resolves source names and provides their coordinates in a variety of systems.
- Date Conversion — converts between dates in different formats.
