FERMI AND JANSKY - OUR EVOLVING UNDERSTANDING OF AGN:Registration and Hotel Reservation Deadline Extended to Sept 25th Dear Colleagues The deadline for Registration and Hotel Reservation for this meeting has been extended to September 25th. The abstract submission deadline remains on the same day, Sept 25th. Looking forward to seeing you in November. On behalf of the organizers, Roopesh Ojha -------------------------------------------------------------------------- First Announcement ========================================================= FERMI AND JANSKY - OUR EVOLVING UNDERSTANDING OF AGN Nov 10-12, 2011 Harbourtowne Conference Center, St. Michaels, MD, USA http://fermi.gsfc.nasa.gov/science/fermi_jansky/ ========================================================= Dear Colleague, We are delighted to announce a workshop "Fermi and Jansky - Our Evolving Understanding of AGN" to be held at the Harbourtowne Conference Center in lovely St. Michaels, MD from Nov 10th through 12th. Participants are expected to arrive on the evening of the 9th, and the meeting is expected to finish at lunchtime on the 12th. Scientific rationale: A large number of exciting results from the marriage of gamma-ray and radio data has made the last couple of years uniquely fulfilling for students of active galactic nuclei. Three years into the Fermi era it is time to step back and reassess our science goals based on what we have learned so far. Additional progress is likely to need new theoretical studies and modified observing strategies. This meeting will bring together observers, theoreticians and modelers to reframe and recalibrate the questions to be addressed while Fermi is observing and specify the types of data that can best answer them. Logistics: The registration and abstract submission will open on August 11th, 2011. The number of participants is limited to 40 to facilitate discussions so you are encouraged to register early. The meeting will take place at the Harbourtowne Conference Center (http://www.harbourtowne.com/) in the historic town of St. Michaels (it dates back to the mid-1600s, practically pre-historic by US standards), which is located on Maryland's storied Eastern Shore about halfway between the Susquehanna River and the Atlantic mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Directions to the hotel from all three area airports are at: http://www.harbourtowne.com/harbourtowne-directions.html. A block of rooms has been pre-booked at the hotel. Please print and fill out the booking form, sign it, and either fax it to +1-301-286-1681 (Attention: Lynette Queen) or scan and email it to lynette.queen@nasa.gov. There is a conference fee of US$210 payable at the same time and using the same form as your hotel booking. Please note that this covers the cost of all meals during the meeting. An accompanying partner can be accomodated for an additional $61 per day ($183 for all three days) to cover their meals. These rooms are only available at this special rate till SEPTEMBER 9TH so please be sure to book by that date. This form and other details are on the conference website at http://fermi.gsfc.nasa.gov/science/fermi_jansky/ For any questions the contact email address is Roopesh.Ojha@gmail.com. Proceedings: Proceedings of the workshop will be published online. Details will be send out in a later posting and posted on the conference webpage Important dates Aug 11 2011 First Announcement Aug 11 2011 Registration and abstract submission open Sep 9 2011 Deadline for hotel bookings Sep 25 2011 Deadline for abstract submission Oct 12 2011 Program announced Nov 10 2011 Workshop begins Nov 20 2011 Deadline for submitting proceedings Scientific organizing committee: Charles Dermer (Naval Research Laboratory, Washington DC) Matthias Kadler (Univ. of Würzburg, Germany) Alan Marscher (Boston University, Boston MA) Julie McEnery (NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD) Roopesh Ojha (Chair; NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD) Anthony Readhead (Caltech, Pasadena, CA ) Gregory Taylor (Univ. of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM) Gino Tosti (Univ. of Perugia, Italy) Stefano Vercellone (Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Palermo, Italy) Robert Wagner (Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, Munich, Germany) Anton Zensus (Max-Planck-Institut for Radioastronomy, Bonn, Germany) Local organizing committee: Michael Dutka, William McConville, Roopesh Ojha, Jeremy Perkins, Lynette Queen (Secretary) We apologize in advance if multiple copies of this announcement make it into your mailbox.
