Simulating the sky seen by Fermi: new results and perspectives

Abstract:

The development of detailed sky simulations has been very important before the launch of Fermi. After six years of Fermi operations, sky simulations are still very useful, to improve our understanding of the detection performance, to develop new analysis tools and techniques, and to explore new interesting science cases. We used the Fermi Large Area Telescope results collected so far to develop new, highly-detailed simulations of the GeV sky as seen by Fermi. We will report on the latest developments of new sky simulation activities, describing their benefits for improving the science of Fermi today and in the near future.
