Abstract:

With the advent of the Fermi observatory extended operations, the Large Area Telescope (LAT) collaboration has moved to the new Pass 8 event simulation and reconstruction package, which fully exploits information on the telescope performance and the on-orbit radiation environment gathered during the first years of operation. Using these new algorithms, and the same event classification techniques used to define the Pass 8 photon classes, we have developed a dedicated event selection to extract electrons from the LAT data. The Cosmic Ray electrons and positrons (CRE) event class features a very large acceptance of more than 2 m$^2$ sr from $sim$ 50 GeV to more than 1 TeV, which was used to reconstruct the 6 years CRE spectrum with the LAT, and can be fine-tuned to perform more accurate spectral and angular analyses of the CRE sample. We present a detailed study of the CRE event class performance and its systematic uncertainties.
