60 Garden Street
Cambridge, MA 02138

Phillips Auditorium
Building D

BY CAR:

From I-90 (Massachusetts Turnpike): Get off at Cambridge (exit 18). Turn left immediately onto Soldiers Field Road (west). Take Harvard Square exit, bear right across Anderson Bridge, and drive straight into Harvard Square. You'll pass "Out of Town News" on your right, then merge with Massachusetts Avenue. Keep Harvard Yard on your right. Stay to the left at the fork, then bear right at the next set of lights to stay on Massachusetts Avenue. Turn left on Linnaean Street and go to the end. The entry to CfA is directly across from the lights.

Parking:

There is no public parking at CfA, and it is very scarce on the adjacent streets. It may be possible to purchase a daily parking pass at CfA, but this depends upon available space. Given that many CfA employees drive in the winter, this is not a great option.

The closest public lots are all in the Harvard Square area. If you park here, following the directions below for walking to CfA from Harvard Square.

Church Street Lot - the Church Street lot is the parking area closest to Harvard Yard. From John F. Kennedy Street, go straight through the traffic lights at Memorial Drive, Eliot Street, and Mount Auburn Street. The next traffic light will put you in the center of HarvardSquare, facing a newsstand called "Nini's Corner." Take a sharp left at "Nini's Corner," then bear right immediately onto Brattle Street. Take the first right onto Church Street. The parking lot is halfway up the street on your left.

The best bet for a parking garage is the nearby Charles Hotel (lot under the hotel), which can be found on the Map by zooming out and panning left (west) or directly at http://map.harvard.edu/level3.cfm?mapname=&tile=E7&quadrant=D&series

By Subway:

From your point of origin, go to the Red Line Harvard Square stop.

Once in Harvard Square:

Take the Church Street exit out of the "T" station. (If you end up walking all the way down into the main station, then exit, cross Massachusetts Avenue, turn right, and you will soon find Church Street and the "T" station exit you could have taken...) Walk away from Harvard Square (i.e. with Harvard Yard on your right) and bear left at the crosswalk that goes into the park (Cambridge Common). You are now on Garden Street. This road splits after a few blocks, with Concord Avenue going to the left (which is the side you will be on) and Garden Street going to the right. You'll need to go across a crosswalk to stay on Garden Street. The observatory is a few more blocks up on Garden Street, just after Bond Street.
