Opening a New Window on the MeV Sky with AMEGO

Sylvain Guiriec

Abstract:

The MeV energy range remains largely unexplored. This energy domain is the key to address fundamental questions such as the nature of astrophysical jets, extreme physics around compact objects, nucleosynthesis and formation of the heavier elements. In the Era of multi-messenger and time-domain astrophysics, this energy range will also bring its lot of new discoveries. The All-sky Medium Energy Gamma-ray Observatory (AMEGO) will explore the MeV sky with (i) an unprecedented sensitivity, (ii) a very large field of view, and (iii) very good spectral and spatial resolutions. In this presentation, we will describe the AMEGO mission, its capabilities, and the new research space that AMEGO will open.
