GBM SGR/Magnetar Catalog

This dataset accompanies the publication "17 Years of Magnetar Bursts Observed with the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor" and provides the machine-readable catalog of short bursts detected from Galactic magnetars by the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM). Covering more than 17 years of continuous observations, the catalog contains 1,254 short bursts from 17 magnetar sources, representing the most comprehensive and longest uninterrupted all-sky monitoring of magnetar burst activity to date. This release supersedes the previous 5-year GBM magnetar catalog (Collazzi et al. (2015)) and is intended as a community resource for magnetar research. The dataset contains two machine-readable catalog files, burst_table.csv and spectral_table.csv, with the descriptions of all columns provided in README.txt. In addition, the archive magnetar_catalog_spectral_data.tar.gz contains the data products for each burst used in the temporal and spectral analyses. The archive is organized into individual directories, one for each burst, named by the rounded Burst Start Mission Elapsed Time (MET). In the rare case that multiple bursts share the same rounded Burst Start MET, the corresponding directories are distinguished by appending a suffix (e.g., ID_1). Each burst directory contains:

  • [ID]_lc.pdf: the light curve generated from the brightest NaI detector (n0-9,na,nb);
  • [ID]_n[detector_name].pha: the source spectrum for each detector included in the spectral analysis;
  • [ID]_n[detector_name]_bkg.pha: the corresponding background spectrum; and
  • [ID]_n[detector_name].rsp: the corresponding detector response file used for spectral fitting.

    These data products enable users to reproduce spectral analysis results (using Xspec) presented in the accompanying publication and perform independent spectral investigations of the cataloged bursts.
